Welcome to leisure cycling in the Belfast area

On tour in Yorkshire We are a local group of the Cyclists' Touring Club, which campaigns for and provides information and services to cyclists.  There is similar local group based in Dublin and about 60 further groups throughout Great Britain.  Our group has about 300 members in Northern Ireland most of whom live in the Greater Belfast area.  The cycling activities most likely to be suitable for an initial contact are :-

Sunday Rides

Typically 10 to 20 cyclists take part in these rides which depart about 10:00 am (09:30 from May to September) from one of four points around Belfast.  They normally travel at a leisurely speed on minor roads covering a distance of 40 to 60 miles, returning to Belfast at 5:00 pm (winter) to 7:00 pm (summer).  The riders stop for about an hour for a packed lunch in a field or under cover.  In summer we stop again for afternoon tea.  Given a reasonable level of cycling fitness these rides can be regarded as of a social rather than a sporting nature.  A number of longer distance rides take place during the summer.

Wednesday and Saturday Rides

The Wednesday Wobbly Wheelers meet regularly for a variety of all day rides.  These frequently use train travel to access a wider range of countryside and, are normally organised about a week ahead.  Details of the meeting arrangements and destination of next ride are available from Billy McCormick or Victor Douglas.  Occasional Saturday rides are held during the summer. 75th Birthday

Tourist Trials

These more arduous rides, which follow a predetermined route in a given time, are held four times per year.  They are supported by our faster Sunday riders and a number visiting entrants.

Clubroom

This consists of a series of slide shows held on alternate Thursdays at 8:00 pm from October to April at St. Nicholas Parish Church Halls, 2-4 Cadogan Park, Lisburn Road, Belfast.

We hope you find some of these activities are suitable for you.  If not, any suggestions are welcome.  We look forward to meeting you and hope you gain much enjoyment from cycling
